The purpose that people always take extra precautions is that they are worried that if its a debit card they will erase all the money on there account, if its a credit card the case is a bit easier because you could always track the purchases and deny any of those purchases, that will help them find your thief easier.
Any debit card is harder to find, because its your own personal account and even calling the card company to shut it down takes a longer time then the credit card because it takes a longer procedure then the other usually do, the best thing about it all is that when they do find your card or who stole it they allow you an allowance due to the misfortune that you have been put under, when they were unaware of the events that have been happening.
